"Freedom Isn't Free" is a phrase that resonates for many of us.
Independence Day presents an opportunity to reflect on the brave men and women who, throughout our history as a nation, dedicated their lives to safeguard our liberty, our democracy, and everything for which our country stands. These men and women are family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, associates, and members of the community spanning hundreds of years. The magnitude of their unwavering dedication to freedom and independence means that no tribute will ever fully match the enormity of their courage and selflessness.
For many, the 4th of July will be filled with days at the beach, backyard barbecues, patriotic parades, and the company of loved ones. But as you relax and unwind over the coming days - while commemorating the Declaration of Independence - I hope you also join me in taking the time to reflect and to honor those who preserve peace, freedom, and independence for the rest of us.
