Welcome

Helping investors make better decisions, not better predictions.

Markets are noisy.

Every day brings a new headline, a new prediction, and a new reason to believe everything has changed.

Most of the time, it hasn’t.

Welcome to The Sandbox Daily – a daily perspective at the intersection of investing, markets, business, personal finance, and lifestyle.

This publication exists for one purpose:

To help investors separate signal from noise through disciplined, evidence-based research and thoughtful market analysis.

Our goal is to help you better understand what’s happening in the markets, why it matters, and how disciplined investors should think about it.

Why I started The Sandbox Daily?

There is one sentence I hear more than almost any other from investors:

I don’t need more information. I need direction.”

That perfectly captures today’s investment environment.

We have more financial information available than ever before, yet investors have never faced more competing narratives, more opinions, or more emotional headlines.

Financial media is built to capture attention. Successful investing is built on making thoughtful decisions.

Those aren’t always the same thing.

The Sandbox Daily was created to bridge that gap.

My goal isn’t to predict tomorrow’s market. It’s to help readers understand today’s market so they can make better decisions tomorrow.

Rather than chasing headlines or making sensational forecasts, I focus on identifying trends, understanding risk, and building a framework investors can rely on long after today’s news cycle has ended.

Markets reward discipline, not predictions.

Who am I?

My name is Blake Millard, CFA. I am the Director of Investments and Portfolio Manager for Sandbox Financial Partners, a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) headquartered in Bethesda, MD.

Every day, I oversee investment strategy, construct and manage client portfolios, evaluate investment products and solutions, communicate market insights across our advisory team, and help clients navigate changing market conditions with confidence.

Before joining Sandbox Financial Partners, I spent nearly a decade at UBS Private Wealth Management supporting two advisory teams responsible for more than a billion dollars in client assets.

The Sandbox Daily is an extension of the work I already do every day. It’s a direct line into how I think about markets, risk, investing, and long-term wealth creation.

I live in Annapolis, MD with my wife Jen and our four kids: Hudson (10), Fitzgerald (8), Finley (8), and Wells (7). When I’m not at my desk, you can find me boating on the Chesapeake, playing a round of golf, reading a book, listening to podcasts, or cheering on my alma mater Michigan (Go Blue!!).

What others are saying

Sam Ro, CFA in The free finance newsletters I read all the time:

The Sandbox Daily: In addition to giving a quick wrap of the day’s market action, Blake Millard offers a couple of highlights from the news, research, and commentary he came across. He clearly reads a ton every day, including a lot of stuff I miss. And so my day isn’t complete until I see Blake newsletter. He usually sends some time between 5pm and 8pm. Sign up here.”

Clifford Cornell, CFP® in The best of the best:

Blake Millard - author of The Sandbox Daily. I had the privilege of listening to Blake give a keynote speech about his newsletter in California.

One thing that separates Blake from literally every other writer is that he writes every… single… day.

It blows my mind that he can keep that pace. I can barely keep up with a weekly newsletter. Nonetheless, Blake covers the market in real time. When markets get volatile, you can find me waiting for Blake’s newsletter to make better sense of it. A very level-headed approach, usually with an array of charts for visual aid, it is no wonder that his newsletter has been in my rotation for years now.”
